The most important goal of education in general and vocational education is the development of the total person. Adult Education is most effective if the educational content is reality-based, and the information taught is applicable to provide teaching and learning that will have a direct effect on the adult learner. These educational experiences should also encourage the development of mature attitudes and behaviors.

It is the responsibility of the Monticello Adult Education program to respect the rights of all individuals and provide for every participant, regardless of race, creed, sex or national origin, the opportunity for a successful learning experience by giving students the highest quality professional instruction, the best available materials, and the greatest motivation that can be provided.

Eligibility Requirements: An adult 18 years of age or older (without regard to place of residence), who is not enrolled in a secondary school (i.e., high school), is eligible to enroll in the adult education program. This includes persons wishing to prepare for the GED, brush up on skills, prepare for the ACT test, improve test scores to get into Vo-tech, or to get a better job.

WAGE (Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy) The office of Adult Education also administers the WAGE program in Drew County. WAGE works to group academic skills common to all employers, such as reading and simple math.

• WAGE addresses the need to improve the basic skills of Arkansas' unemployed and underemployed workers.
• The WAGE Council in our community identifies the basic academic skills required for entry level jobs.
• WAGE places employers at the center of an effort to redefine basic skills required by today's high-performance workplaces.
• WAGE is a partnership between local employers, city government, employment agencies, educators and industrial and economic development organizations.
